Who are we?

The Southwest Regional Western Equestrian Association (AERWSO) is a non-profit organization established in 1980 to promote western equestrian sports in the beautiful Southwest region of Quebec. AERWSO is affiliated with and in good standing with Cheval Québec and Equestrian Canada .

We offer events for everyone: from the youngest to the oldest, from beginners to the most experienced. We have several in-house events, including the Green Horse and Green Reiner events; the first is for horses in their first year of experience and the second for riders in their first year of reining competition.

There are also performance events including, among others: halter work, walk and trot, Western riding, classical riding, jumping, Western and classical riding, and the very popular obedience to commands. These events are open to both ponies and horses, and are divided by age category for younger riders. For regular performance events, we have an Intermediate division that allows for the transition between the Beginner and Omnium levels.

AERWSO is run by passionate equestrians who dedicate themselves generously to the sport. We look forward to seeing you at our competitions and please don't hesitate to ask us any questions. Have a great season everyone and enjoy!

We offer classes for everyone: from the young to the not so young, from beginners to advanced riders. We have a lot of house classes such as Green Horse and Green Reiner; the first being for the horses in their first year of reining and the second for the riders competing in reining for their first season.

We also have many preformance events featuring, amongst many: halter, walk-trot, western pleasure and westerne equitation, english, obstacles and the ever popular command classes. These classes are for ponies and horses and are divided by age for the youth. Our performance classes include an intermediate division for an easy transition from the Beginner category to the Open one.

AERWSO is managed by passionate equestrians who generously devote themselves. It will be a pleasure seeing you at our shows and do not hesitate to contact us with your questions.

Horses, equestrian sports, breeding… these are passions I first shared with my family, and it has since become a family business. AERWSO is the association through which, for the past 20 years, I have passed on this passion to children, teenagers, and adults who themselves become champions of this sport! In recent years, I have broadened my equestrian interests by introducing Ranch Riding to Quebec, without forgetting my primary passions: reining and performance. I am always learning and discovering, both as a trainer and an instructor!

Administrative Director

I've been involved in the equestrian world for over 20 years. I've done trail riding, pleasure riding, and now I'm into reining. I truly love everything related to horses. My passion for competition led me to join the AERWSO board to help raise awareness and promote this wonderful sport.

A long time ago, Josée was introduced to horses under the care of an occupational therapist who practiced hippotherapy. Horses hold a special place in her heart, and she is involved in the association to support equestrian sport and riders in the region.

I've been riding horses since I was 10 years old, and I was hooked from the very beginning. Quickly, this passion took up a large part of my life, and I started participating in competitions from the age of 11, which allowed me to develop my experience, my discipline and my love for this sport.

Since 2023, I have held the position of director, a role that is particularly close to my heart. Through this role, I hope to share my passion and help nurture the next generation. My goal is to provide young people with a healthy, safe, and motivating environment where they can progress at their own pace, develop their skills, and, above all, learn to truly love this sport.

I was still in diapers the first time I rode a horse! I'm 21 years old and I've been competing in AERWSO competitions for 19 years. It's a fantastic organization that gives riders of all levels and ages the chance to participate in amateur competitions. I volunteer my time so that everyone has the opportunity to experience this wonderful opportunity. I'm starting my professional career in horse training. I'm a perfectionist and I love precision work; I strive for perfect movement. I also enjoy working with horses who have had successful careers in a particular discipline and retraining them for a different kind of work. Often, these horses are eager to work, and new challenges stimulate them!

My name is Jeremy Prévost, I'm 22 years old, and I'm one of the directors of AERWSO. It was with this association that I competed for the first time almost 10 years ago. Thanks to the association's accessibility for all levels of riders and horses, I was able to progress and reach national-level competitions. That's why AERWSO is so important to me. I want to see other young people, as well as older riders, grow in the sport and encourage them to always aim higher!

Cindy Labrie

My name is Cindy Labrie, I am 37 years old and I am proud to be involved as a director within the AERSWO Equestrian Association.

I have always had a great fascination with horses and a deep passion for this world.

As a horse owner and active rider, I fully live this passion by participating in competitions alongside my daughters. For me, the equestrian world is much more than a sport: it's a true school of life that teaches discipline, respect, perseverance, and pushing oneself to the limit.

Possessing natural leadership and a strong sense of initiative, I enjoy getting involved and moving projects forward. My commitment to the association stems from a clear desire: to contribute to building a strong, dynamic, and accessible community where every rider, regardless of their level, can thrive in a motivating and structured environment.

I deeply believe in the power of collective action and the importance of creating positive experiences, both for riders and for families.

Looking forward to meeting you and developing our shared passion together.

I'm a devoted mother who was drawn into the world of Western riding thanks to my two daughters, who fell in love with competitions. To support them and encourage the next generation, I got involved with the association to help as much as possible. Today, I participate in activities as much as I can, sharing this wonderful passion with them.

Treasurer

I have been riding horses for over 35 years. I have practiced various equestrian disciplines; with AERWSO, I am discovering reining and ranch riding. But regardless of the discipline, the joy is always the same: being around a horse.

Collaborating with AERWSO is a way to share this joy with others. It's about ensuring that children (and grown-ups!) can come together and compete in a healthy, safe, and friendly environment.

Nathalie Boyer
Event administration

In the mid-2000s, Nathalie wanted to take riding lessons, and as luck would have it, her childhood friend, Jennifer, owned a riding stable. Just a year later, Nathalie became the owner of her first horse! She competed for many years in performance events as well as in reining. She is now involved with the AERWSO (Association of Equestrian Sports of Western Ontario) to support equestrian sport in the region while remaining close to this community and the people she loves.

Trail Management

Ghislain began riding about ten years ago, simply enjoying trail riding. Since 2019, he has focused more specifically on reining and ranch riding. For him, equestrian activities offer an exceptional opportunity for relaxation and self-improvement.
